We’re sliding into your inboxes today from a new location—does that sound creepy? Sorry. It’s not meant to. This is still The Pom, and I’m your host, Amy Colleen. You’re receiving this email because you’re part of our email list, which we are in the process of transferring over from Substack. On your end, not much is changing! But we want to keep you abreast of updates, so let’s dive in to some Frequently Anticipated Questions. (No one has asked these yet but we like to stay ahead of the game.)
Why are we moving?
We have a new team (with the addition of Lily, Taylor, and Lindsay) and a new way of doing things (recurrent contributions from all of the aforementioned, but also a regular rotation of essays from emerging and guest writers) and we wanted a fresh start. Also, speaking with total frankness, we’re not thrilled with some of the choices Substack has made and continues to make regarding the people and ideas they implicitly (or explicitly) endorse, and we felt it would be best to step away from that platform. So here we are on Beehiiv!
Wait, where’s Lucy?
Lucy Huber has decided to step back from The Pom’s writing team to focus on the many other responsibilities in her life right now (such as her new baby!!). We will miss her and hope she’ll have time to do a guest post sometime in the future! Her previous posts will remain in the site archive.
Which site archive?
Great question! We’re going to leave the existing content up on Substack for a while as we work on migrating everything over here. But eventually the archived posts on Substack will appear here on the Beehiiv site as well so you can read them in one place. We can’t backdate them, but we can put a note in each one documenting when it was originally published.
What comes next?
Today is Monday, which is when we typically send out shorter, lighter posts containing humor or Day in the Lifes (days in the life?) or updates, like the one you’re reading now. We’ll be back on our regularly scheduled More Serious Works train on Thursday, with an essay from a guest writer many of you will likely recognize.
Do I have to do anything?
Well, if you’re receiving this post, you’re already on the list, which means you don’t need to sign up! If you were previously a monthly paid subscriber to our Substack, we’d like to ask you to consider re-subscribing as a paid member here on Beehiiv. The price will be the exact same. We have already comped your subscription until the end of the month, just so you don’t get double-billed for October!
If you were previously an annual paid subscriber, never fear, your subscription is also still intact! We have given you a prorated paid subscription until the end of your original paid subscription period. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Why isn’t this the-pom.com? Why is that link still directing people to Substack?
We’re still in the process of bringing all our content over here and redirecting internal links, but the-pom.com will redirect here to Beehiiv once that process is complete! In the meantime, you can share thepomegranate.beehiiv.com with your friends.
Is that an ad at the end of this post?
Yes! Beehiiv offers an ad partnership program for its creators and we’ve decided to take advantage of this to help cover the costs of running the website and of course paying all our contributors. This enables us to keep subscription costs as low as possible.
Are you selling out?
I mean, inasmuch as we’re putting our art on the Internet and receiving filthy lucre in return for it, sure. But we were already doing that, and now we aren’t tied to anyone who’s subtly or not-so-subtly platforming N*zis, so that’s a win.
Can we still reach you in the same way?
Sure can! You can comment on this post, or you can hit reply in your email, or you can send a new message to [email protected].
What do you think about the Kelly Clarkson animatronic bird debacle?
We have a variety of opinions, the predominant of which are “who is legitimately paying $15k for a figurine of a bird and would they like to funnel that money into supporting nonfiction writers instead” and “why are people still talking about this.”
Leave your thoughts below, and thanks for being here! We appreciate you!
